Raymond “Ray” George Summers, age 77, of Tipton, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 5, 2022, with his loving daughter, Leverne by his side.
Ray was born in Middlesex, England on Oct. 30, 1944, to his parents, Henry Frederick Theodore Summers and Cissy May (Fitzgibbons) Summers. Ray graduated from Wilton School in England in the Class of 1961.
In 1969, Ray moved with his family to the United States. Many years were spent in New Hampshire before Ray found his way to Tipton. Most folks around Tipton know and will remember Ray for driving the Senior Center transport bus.
To know Ray was to love Ray! His accent quickly reeled you in. It was an interesting combination of England and New Hampshire.
Ray was always upbeat, with a smile on his face. He was funny, full of life and always willing to lend a helping hand. Ray loved his family and was also very appreciative of the wonderful church family he had at Rock Prairie.
Ray was a dog lover to say the least! He definitely had a special knack because he could patiently train any dog and make it look easy. His daughter often called him the “dog whisperer.” Of course, that’s funny…but, also a true representation of his abilities. Animals were drawn to Ray just as people were. He was gentle, kind and so caring of others. Ray will be so greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him!
Those left to carry on Ray’s legacy of love are his children, Sheila (Jack) Howley, Leverne Morgan and Raymond (Adrienne) Summers Jr.; son-in-law, Michael McEvoy; grandchildren, Jennifer, Allie (Eddie), Amy (Josh), Mary, Jay, Katy, Kim (Josh), Kellie (Seth), Cole, Delaney and Hugh; sisters, Maureen, Wendy and Gwen; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as trusted friends, Marcie Harpel, Holly Whitehead and Gail Andrews.
Ray was welcomed into Heaven by his parents; daughter, Maureen McEvoy; and brother, Bob Summers.
A memorial service in Ray’s honor will be on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 4 p.m., at Rock Prairie Baptist Church, located at 421 Ash St. in Tipton. Pastor Jerry Markins will be officiating.
A visitation for family and friends will be prior to the service from 2 to 4 p.m. at the church.
Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home is honored to serve the Summers family in their time of need.
Please feel free to leave an online condolence or share a special memory of Ray with his family on his tribute wall.
