Darlene Kay Rubush, age 82, of Tipton, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2022, at IU Health Tipton Hospital in Tipton, surrounded by her loving family.
Darlene was born on Jan. 3, 1940, to her parents, Raymond and Lucille (Webb) McCubbins in Tipton.
Darlene married the love of her life, Billy Rubush, on July 12, 1963. They shared 58 years together, raising two wonderful daughters. He survives.
Darlene was a graduate of Tipton High School, Class of 1958. After high school, she attended business school in Indianapolis. She worked for Pittsburgh Plate Glass and Tipton BMV before deciding her best work would be done at home raising her children. She had a heart for others and enjoyed volunteering at Lincoln and Jefferson Schools doing whatever was needed of her. She was the resident grandma to so many kiddos and touched so many lives through her volunteer work.
Darlene enjoyed staying home with her children and running their farm menagerie of goats, sheep and cows. She never knew what she might walk into whether it be a calf or lamb in the kitchen, or a full-grown sheep being walked upstairs to hang out with one of the girls in their bedroom. No matter what the case may have been, she took it all in stride…mostly!
She had an abundance of patience, determination and loyalty to those she loved. She had such a caring heart for her family and friends. She loved animals and the care she showed them was unmatched by any other. She was very easy going and laid-back but had a stubborn side that would sneak out occasionally.
Those left to carry on Darlene’s legacy of love are her husband, Billy Rubush; children, Cindy Overdorf and Resa Rubush; and nephews and nieces.
Darlene was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Raymond and Lucille McCubbins and sister, Pat Burden.
A graveside service celebrating Darlene’s life will be at 11 a.m. today, March 25, 2022, at East Union Cemetery in Atlanta, with Pastor James Thurston officiating.
A visitation will take place from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home, located at 314 N. Main St. in Tipton.
Taylor & Cowan Funeral Home is honored to serve the Rubush family in their time of need. Please feel free to leave an online condolence or share a special memory of Darlene with her family on her tribute wall at www.taylorcowanfh.com
