Freida I. Wilson

ALEXANDRIA – Freida Irene (Roy) Wilson, 83, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 from Bethany Pointe in Anderson following an extended illness.
She was born on April 4,1938 in Sullivan, Ind. to Edwin and Frances (Cox) Roy.
She was a curly auburn haired little girl who loved playing outdoors and yet enjoyed the softer indoor activities as well. She was an accomplished singer in her hometown church choir and was a regular on the dance floor of the community theater.
She was a graduate of Connersville High School, Class of 1956 at an early age. Upon graduation, she immediately left Connersville for Minneapolis, Minn. to attend The Airline Academy. While there, she did a mock interview and upon completion she was offered a job working for United Airlines. She was only 17 and not old enough to take the position. However, the interviewer was so captured by Freida’s personality that an exception to the age requirement was waived. Upon graduation, she immediately flew to San Francisco to begin her teletype communications career with United Airlines. Freida eventually made her way back to Indiana to work for United Airlines at Fort Wayne.
One cool fall evening under an October moon, she met her future husband on a blind date. It wasn’t long before she and John Wilson married on Dec. 20, 1958.
Freida Irene, which is what she liked to call herself, had always wanted to become a nurse. But motherhood stepped in and delayed her education until Shane and Shawn were old enough to attend school. Freida graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Ball State University in Muncie. She dedicated the rest of her life to caring for others. She put others first in all matters and often worked to near exhaustion tending to their needs. Giving freely of her time was one of her strongest characteristics and the one attribute we most remember. She also graduated from several professional photography schools. She retired as an LPN from Community Hospital in Anderson in 1993 after 12 years of employment.
She was a long-time member of the Christian Congre-gation Church of Alexandria where she was active in the Ladies Aide of the church. She was a life member and Past Worthy Matron of the former Alexandria Order of the Eastern Star #178 and the White Shrine of Jerusalem in Anderson. She had served for more than 50 years on the Republican Precinct Election Board and was a Life Member of Beta Sigma Phi. Freida pursued her passion for professional photography, she enjoyed oil painting, music and singing.
She loved hunting for mushrooms and each year she and a few close friends would travel to Mesick, Mich. to hunt for the crown jewel of mushrooms. The morel mushroom was king and Freida could actually smell them when she was in the woods.
She and her late husband John were associated with the Indiana State Fair for several years. There were many things in life that brought Freida pleasure, but in priority order would be her husband John, her sons and then her nursing. She was a strong Christian who held an unshakeable faith and belief in Jesus Christ. She was not afraid to face death, as she knew that death was only the opening of the door through which to pass to be with her husband John, Margaret Wilson and other beloved family members.
Freida Irene you will be missed, but your memories will stay with us forever. You lived as you thought you should according to God’s instruction. She shared His love, lead her sons as well as countless others to faith in Christ. She gave freely of her time and loved others as herself. She was a loving wife, mother, grandma, friend and daughter. She is now sitting hand in hand with Dad for eternity.

(Stephanie) Wilson of South Padre Island, Texas; three grandchildren, Daniel (Kiva) Wilson, Aaron (Allison) Wilson and Jennifer (Lee) Anderson; four great-grandchildren; brother, George Roy of Oklahoma City, Okla. and several nieces and nephews.
