John Clinton Davis

John Clinton Davis, 85, and a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Bridgewater Healthcare in Carmel following a brief illness.
He was born March 24, 1936 in Elwood, the son of Palmer J. and Lucy C. (Trenary) Davis.
John graduated from Wendell L. Willkie High School in 1954 and later graduated from Purdue University in 1958.  He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in agriculture as well as a teaching degree.
John proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for three years working in special investigations, and he developed a love of flying that would last a lifetime.
He married Sue Ann Antrim on Jan. 27, 1957, and they shared over 64 years of adventures together.
John was a farmer at heart nearly all of his life.  He enjoyed teaching agriculture for a short time early in life and later became a licensed insurance agent, real estate broker, farm manager, seed salesman, and farm bureau manager.
John had an easy-going personality, was friendly to everyone he met, and always enjoyed good conversation with friends and fellow farmers. John especially enjoyed golfing for many years in addition to boating, water skiing, snow skiing, and flying airplanes.
He was a longtime, devoted member of the First United Methodist Church in Elwood where he served as an usher and was formerly active in numerous church committees.
John and Sue enjoyed spending winters in Fort Myers, Fla. for many years.  He especially enjoyed playing Bridge and Euchre and always loved dining out with family and friends.  John’s favorite part of a good meal was always dessert – preferably pie.
More than anything, John will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
John’s family legacy includes his wife, Sue Ann Davis of Elwood; daughter, Laura Ann Davis of Crownsville, Md.; two beloved grandchildren, Carly Ann Weaver (Spencer Kleinrichert), both of Annapolis, Md. and Shannon Marie Weaver (fiance’ Zach Brafford) of North Carolina; sisters-in-law, Alice (husband Robert) DeLaCroix of Rochester, N.Y. and Carolyn Sue Antrim of Muncie; and several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Brent Davis in 1987; brother, Jim B. (and wife Pearl) Davis; son-in-law, Brad Willcockson; and brother-in-law, Stephen Antrim.
A funeral service celebrating John’s life and legacy will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Roberta Cook of the First United Methodist Church officiating.  Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery where military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Air Force and the Elwood V.F.W. honor guard.
Visitation for family and friends will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday prior to the funeral at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.  Health precautions remain encouraged, and face coverings are optional.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the First United Methodist Church or the Parkinson’s Foundation through the funeral home.
