The first official football practice of 2008 will take place Monday, Aug. 4. The Tipton High School football team has been getting ready for that day by participating in a team camp this week. Above, assistant coach Jason Hare demonstrates how he wants the line to block on a certain play. The skills players have also gotten plenty of work. The coaches have also made sure that the players get plenty of water breaks, especially during the hot temperatures earlier this week. The camp ended Thursday. Tipton will have its annual 7-on-7 competition and linemen challenge at 6 p.m. today.

Tipton youth football camp next week
The Tipton High School football coaching staff will conduct its annual summer football skills camps for boys in grades 3-8.
The camp will begin on Monday and will go through Thursday, July 31.
The camp will consist of two sessions. The first session is for grades 3-5 and will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The second session is for boys in grades 6-8 and will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Both sessions will take place at the THS football field.
The cost is $35. A family with more than one participant will receive a $10 discount, making the cost of the camp $25 per child. All campers will receive a football and a camp t-shirt.
For more information, contact THS Coach Aaron Tolle at 675-5998.

Emenhiser, Hicks, Miller, Fox win tourney
The Tipton Women’s Golf Association had its Dan Young Tournament on Thursday.
The first-place team was comprised of Rachel Emenhiser, Judy Hicks, Carol Miller and Sandy Fox.
The second-place team included Cara Yohe, Carrie Capshaw, Amy Gray and Beth Tilley.
Claudia Seward, Wanda Morrisett, Linda Purvis and Angie Henry teamed up to place third.

Lewis will have to compete for QB job
Indiana football coach Bill Lynch says quarterback Kellen Lewis will have to beat out backup Ben Chappell to regain his starting job this fall.
Lewis passed for more than 3,000 yards and rushed for a team-high 736 yards last season, leading the Hoosiers to their first postseason bowl appearance since 1993. But he was suspended for undisclosed reasons and missed spring practice, giving the job for the time being to Chappell.
At the annual Big Ten football media program in Chicago on Thursday, Lynch said Chappell is a strong thrower but doesn't have the same ability to make plays with his feet as Lewis does.
He said that means the two quarterbacks will have to compete for the job when they get to camp.
