EHS girls relay 7th
in sectional prelims


FISHERS --- A seventh-place finish by Elwood’s 200-yard freestyle relay and eighth-place efforts by the other two relays highlighted the Lady Panthers’ efforts in Thursday’s preliminaries of the Fishers Swimming and Diving Sectional.
The relays will return for the sectional finals on Saturday afternoon.
Combining for seventh in the 200 freestyle relay were Meredith Helpling, Lizzie Overdorf, Morgan Cook and Ellie Fettig. Their time of 2:07.12 was just off their season-best of 2:06.59.
On the eighth-place 200 medley relay were Fettig, Whitney Campbell, Cook and Overdorf. Their time of 2:27.85 was just a tick higher than their seed time of 2:26.33.
On the eighth-place 400 freestyle relay were Campbell, Grace Arbuckle, Brooklyn Mays and Helpling. Their time was 5:14.35, more than 14 seconds better than the seeding time.
Elwood finishes in individual events were:
200 freestyle -- 18.Meredith Helpling, 2:42.48; 19.Grace Arbuckle, 2:53.06; 20.Emily Meredith 3:19.52.
200 IM -- 19.Morgan Cook 3:03.23; 21.Haeley Moody 3:17.33; 23.Tiffanie Hoel 3:32.12.
50 freestyle -- 13.Ellie Fettig 28.74; 20.Lizzie Overdorf 30.95; 26.Kelsey Crabtree 36.08.
100 buttterfly -- 20.Maddi Runyan 1:37.33.
100 freestyle -- 16.Ellie Fettig 1:05.88; 18.Lizzie Overdorf 1:08.82; 24.Tiffanie Hoel 1:20.17.
100 backstroke -- 19.Maddie Runyan 1;29.91; 20.Grace Arbuckle 1:29.97; 21.Brooklyn Mays 1:35.70.

Frankton 7th boys
reach County finals


ALEXANDRIA --- Frankton’s seventh-grade boys basketball team beat Alexandria 47-28 on Thursday in the opening round of the Madison County Tournament.
The 13-6 Eagles will face Anderson Highland at 10 a.m. Saturday in the semifinals at Lapel.
In the other semifinal, Liberty Christian will meet Pendleton Heights.
The seventh-grade final will be at 12:30 p.m.
“We have our work cut out for us,” said Frankton Coach Kelly Ashton. “Highland beat us 62-21 (on Nov. 17). This will be a very, very tough task for us, but I’ve seen a lot of improvement in our team since then, so we’ll just go into the game and see what we can do.”
On Thursday, the Eagles led Alexandria only 9-4 after one quarter, then pushed it to 23-11 at halftime and 37-22 through three quarters.
Frankton had beaten Alex 47-28 in their regular-season meeting back in November.
Maurice Knight led the winners with 21 points. Levi Cain scored 10, Keegan Freestone 5, Patrick Spillman 5, Jack Rogers 4, Matt Ginder 2 and Ethan Blake 1.
For Alexandria, Matthew Hensley scored 13, Blake Morehead 9, Dylan Dowling 6, Jake Ebert 2, T.J. Hahn 1 and Isaac Granger 1.
In the eighth-grade game, Alexandria beat Frankton. No details were reported.

ALEXANDRIA --- Elwood Middle School’s sixth-grade boys basketball team beat Alexandria 46-29 on Thursday.
Jack Bennett led the Panthers with 19 points. Travis McGuire scored 14, Jake Wilson 4, Aaron Litherland 4, Elijah Huff 3 and Jove’on Poor 2.
No report was received on the girls game for the third straight contest.
Elwood will play host to Tipton on Monday.

Home-school team
24-5 after latest win


NOBLESVILLE -- Elwood’s Caleb Jones and the Noblesville Lions Junior High home-school boys basketball team beat the WACHE Warriors from Wells County 35-20 on Tuesday.
The Lions, now 24-5, led at every stop: 13-4, 20-10 and 29-18.
Jones contributed 3 steals and 2 assists.
The Lions will visit Colonial Christian Academy of Indianapolis on Tuesday.

Liberty Christian 8th
ends Elwood season


Elwood Middle School’s eighth-grade boys basketball team finished 0-16 with a 56-43 loss to Liberty Christian in Thursday’s opening round of the Madison County Tournament.
Elwood Coach Mitch Kirkwood said: “This was the best 0-16 group of basketball players anyone could have had the pleasure to coach.
“We kept it close for three quarters, only being down two points to start the fourth quarter, but just couldn’t get shots to fall after that.”
Liberty Christian led 17-11 after one quarter, 30-19 at halftime and 38-36 entering the fourth quarter.
Will Dailey scored 10 of his 26 points in the third quarter, as Elwood outscored the Lions 17-8.
Tyce Towner scored 7, Malichi Jones 4, and with 2 apiece were Weston Elbert, Zach Faulstich and Logan Green.
For Liberty Christian, F. Nunn scored 40, Truitt 10, and with 2 each were A. Nunn, Burke and Weaver.
F. Nunn had 15 points in the first quarter, 12 in the second, 4 in the third and 9 in the fourth.
Liberty Christian also won the seventh-grade game, but no details were reported.
Elwood’s seventh graders finished 2-14.
