Rev. David C. Teague Jr.,
88, Alexandria, died Jan. 29, 2010 at Malcolm Randall VA Medical
Center, Gainesville, Fla. following a brief illness.
He was born Oct. 8, 1921 in Yancey County, N.C. to David C. and
Florence (Devinney) Teague Sr. He resided in Alexandria most of his
lifetime.
David served his country in the United States Army during World War
II. He was an MP sergeant in the Pacific B-29 Bomber Squadron. He
owned and operated Dave's Chicken Shack and The Family Restaurant,
both formerly of Alexandria. He had also worked at Hartson-Kennedy
Cabinet Top Company in Marion for 20 years retiring in 1983. He
owned Teague Buffing Shop in Alexandria for many years.
David was skilled with his hands and worked as a handyman in
construction, a stone mason and worked in tree services and
firewood.
He began his ministry from the Alexandria Church of the Nazarene
where he was instrumental in starting their bus ministry. He was the
founding pastor of the Monroe Fellowship Chapel in Alexandria. His
evangelistic preaching style won many people to the Lord and his
humble servanthood showed many the love of Christ. David also helped
start five other non-denominational churches in the area.

He is survived by a son, David C. (Mary) Teague III, Alexandria;
daughters, Sharon (David ) Wood, Sheila (Greg) Walters, Loucinda
McCormack, Rita (Harold) Harder, Darlene Fleetwood, all of
Ander-son; Peggy Wiley and Velda Teague Winn, both of Alexandria;
Janice Teague, Fleming Island, Fla.; 28 grandchildren; 20
great-grandchildren; brothers, John (Evelyn) Teague, Alexandria, Ed
Teague, Muncie, Benny (Claudia) Teague, Anderson; a sister, Freda
(Ned) Crotinger, Alexandria and several nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his father in 1978; his mother in 1983;
his wife, Mary (Duffitt) Teague in 1990; sisters, Ina Mae Musick,
Wanda Weaver, Carolyn Bush and Ada Blockson; brothers, Robert Teague
and James Teague, and two great-grandchildren.
A Service of Home Going will take place at 1 p.m. Friday. Feb. 5,
2010 at the Monroe Fellowship Chapel, 1308 W. Monroe St.,
Alexandria. Rev. Frank Lynn Reynolds will officiate. Interment will
follow in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria with military honors by
Elwood VFW #5782 Honors Team.
Friends may call at the Owens Funeral Home, 412 N. Harrison St.,
Alexandria from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday or at the church one hour prior
to services Friday

Nancy
J. Garner
Nancy J. Garner, 68, Alexandria, died Jan. 27, 2010 at Community
Hospital in Anderson following an extended illness.
She was born Aug. 14, 1941 in Anderson to Charles D. and Virginia (Nevils)
Kerr. She had resided in Alexandria all of her lifetime.
Nancy was a graduate of Alexandria High School-Class of 1959. She
received her Masters of Education degree from Ball State University
in Muncie.
Nancy taught second grade at Red Corner School and Frankton
Elementary School for 35 years.
She collected Boyd's bears, enjoyed playing the piano, playing
computer games, bingo and traveling. Her warm smile will be sadly
missed, but fondly remembered.
She is survived by her husband, Charles W. Garner, whom she married
July 9, 1983; a son, Matthew Corey (Kathy) Weeks, Kokomo; a
daughter, Melissa (Kenny) Carter, Elwood; sisters, Shirley (Don)
Miller, Sue (Marvin) Davis, Debbie (Bob) Downey, all of Alexandria;
step-daughters, Orle-na Belser, Charlotte McDonald, Mary Fears,
Pamela Loveall and Liz Wiederhold, all of California; a
granddaughter, Brittany Allen, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were Jan. 30, 2010 at Noffze Funeral Home in
Alexandria. Interment was in Park View Cemetery, Alexandria.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation through the funeral home.

Norman
E. Randol
Norman E. Randol, 85, Summitville, died Jan. 27, 2010 at Colonial
Oaks in Marion following an extended illness.
He was born Jan. 27, 1925 in Summitville to Alonzo S. and Hazel
(Cunningham) Randol. He had resided in Summitville all of his
lifetime.
He served with the United States Navy during World War II.
He retired from Delco-Remy, formerly of Anderson after 30 years of
employment.
He is survived by a son, Steve Randol, Summitville; a daughter,
Cathy Cook, Wabash; six grandchildren; sisters, Naomi Enyeart and
Barb Butcher, both of Fairmount; and brothers, Kenneth Randol of
Indianapolis and Jack Randol of South Carolina.
Funeral services were Jan. 30, 2010 at Owens-Noffze Funeral Home in
Summitville. Interment was in Vinson Memorial Cemetery at
Summitville.
Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Hospice of Marion
through the funeral home.

K. Mounsey
Judith K. "Judy" Mounsey, 64, Alexandria, died Jan. 30, 2010 at
Rolling Meadows Health Care in LaFontaine, following an extended
illness.
She was born April 14, 1945 in Anderson to Clarence B. and Florence
(Latta) Mounsey. She had resided in Alexandria most of her lifetime.
There are no survivors in her immediate family.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at Parkview Cemetery in
Alexandria.
Arrangements were entrusted to Owens Funeral Home, Alexandria.

Mary
Catherine Schmidt
Mary Catherine Schmidt, 95, Alexandria, Jan. 31, 2010 at the
Alexandria Care Center following an extended illness.
She was born Dec. 11, 1914 in Swayzee, to John and Henrietta
(Hatton) Moorman.
She resided in Alexandria most of her lifetime.
Mary Catherine was a graduate of Fairmount High School Class of
1933. She then graduated in 1937 as a registered nurse from St.
John's School of Nursing in Anderson.
She was co-owner and operator of Rite-Way Plumbing and Electric in
Alexandria since 1945.
She was an active member of Alexandria First United Methodist Church
where she had served on numerous committees and the Board of
Trustees. She had been a member of the Alexandria Order of the
Eastern Star for more than 50 years. She was a Past Worthy Matron
and had served as secretary and treasurer of the Order. Mary
Catherine enjoyed entertaining and always represented what was
proper and in good taste.
She traveled extensively with her late husband, was an avid reader
and enjoyed playing cards. She was very fond of her backyard nature
retreat and received great pleasure from bird watching. Mary
Catherine exemplified many traits; she was a "modern woman", a
"sharp" businesswoman, a mentor and an example of social grace and
dignity. She was always willing to share her knowledge and life
lessons with those she came in contact with.
She is survived by a son, Eric (Gail) Schmidt, Alexandria;
grandchildren, David (Ericka) Schmidt, Alexandria; Paula
Schmidt-Hobbs, Converse; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces
and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter P.
Schmidt in 1984 and 12 siblings.
A service honoring Mary Catherine's life will take place at 7 p.m.
today at Noffze Funeral Home, 501 N. Harrison St., Alexandria. Rev.
Joyce Thornton of the First United Methodist Church will officiate.
Friends may call at the Noffze Funeral Home after 4 p.m., today
prior to the services.
Private interment services will take place in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery
in Alexandria at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alexandria First United
Methodist Church or the Resident's Activity Fund of the Alexandria
Care Center through the funeral home.

M. Peters
Helen M. (Bassett) Peters, 92, Alexandria died Jan. 28, 2010 at
Community Northview Care Center in Anderson following an extended
illness.
She was born Oct. 4, 1917 in Alexandria to Roscoe O. and Grace (Lee)
Bassett. She resided in Alexandria all of her lifetime.
Helen was a graduate of Alexandria High School Class of 1934.
She was the oldest living member of the Alexandria Church of God.
She had served on numerous church boards, Missionary Society, taught
Sunday school for several years and was elected to a national office
on the Church of God Board of Christian Education. She was named
Woman of the Year in 1984 at her church.
She had worked for Madison County Abstract and Title Company in
Anderson in her younger days. More recently she had worked at the
former Leewin Floral Company in Alexandria for 43 years. When her
late husband Charles served on the Alexandria Fire Department, Helen
was active in the Fire Department Auxiliary.
Helen loved to crochet and knit. She had made hundreds of lap
blankets for nursing home residents. She also made infant blankets
that were sent to American Indian missions.
She is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Lemon, Alexandria;
grandchildren, Michael Lemon, Alexandria, Erin (Chris) Hubbard,
Brownsburg, Scott (Jenny) Peters, Geneva, Craig Peters, Belling-ham,
Wash.; great-grandchildren, Wesley Timmons and Bennett Hubbard;
brother, Wayne (Phyllis) Bassett, Alexandria; former
daughter-in-law, Neva Peters (Amos) Schwartz, Geneva; and several
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years,
Charles Peters in 1994; her son, Terry Peters in 1981, brothers,
Earl Bassett and LeRoy Bassett; and a son-in-law, Gene Lemon in
2006.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010 at the Alexandria Church
of God. Interment was in Park View Cemetery in Alexandria.

through the funeral home.

Richard T. Byrd
Richard T. Byrd, 62, Summitville, died Jan. 25, 2010 at his
residence following a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 25, 1947 in Anderson to Thomas G. and Betty (Vetor)
Byrd. He had resided in Summitville all of his lifetime.
He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a
Purple Heart recipient and was honorably discharged as a SP 4 in
1973.
He had been employed at the Red Gold Distribution Center in Orestes
for the past 14 years.
He is survived by his mother; his wife, Teresa (Phelps) Byrd; a son,
Jason Byrd, LaFontaine; a sister Reta Holdcraft, Summitville;
brothers, Ronnie Byrd and Randy Byrd of Summitville; and Roger Byrd
of Marion.
Funeral services were Jan. 29, 2010 at Owens-Noffze Funeral Home in
Summitville. Interment was in Vinson Memorial Cemetery in
Summitville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Van Buren Township Fire
Department or the Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund through the funeral
home.
